A story behind the product - Blue Tansy Balm

A story behind the product - Blue Tansy Balm

One of the exciting thing (for me at least) about being a boutique artisan skincare creator is exploring and learning more about different oils, essentials, and the best combinations for targeted use. Every product we have created has a purpose in ours or one of our families households.

Today we are going to take a closer look at the Blue Tansy Balm, why it had a need within our family and what makes it iconically Harpella.

This story starts after Christmas/ new year break, when the winds were blowing, the rains were sideways and our little white gazebo was taking on the elements every weekend. Not only was the gazebo taking on the weather but we were too! Lucky for us, we now had an arsenal of essential oils, carrier oils, and new knowledge and experience to create something truly special with products we knew worked (if you have have spoken us at the markets before, you will be familiar with these words - I only use what works).

I needed deep hydration, skin repair, I was contantly puffy around my eyes, my skin was red and breaking out, and I needed it like last year. Its funny because I love helping people take the time for themselves and promote self care, but when it comes to myself, I tend to wait until its less of a want and definitely a prominent need.

Heres the thought process and I think I'll bullet point it as theres a lot..

  • I had this little micro jar of blue tansy which is highly valued for its healing and anti-inflammatory/ anti-bacterial properties (perfect for someone who had just spent the morning outside in the weather either on the roadside or on the grass depending on the day!) and is also great for healing damaged skin. Check check check! There's the hero for this product!
  • From there, I considered the base. The main carrier that was going to not only seal in this amazing essential oil, but that was going to be fast absorbing and was now a common feature to our table throught our products as it is revered for its skin repair qualities. I chose our Kawakawa infused tallow as it is highly compatible with our natural skin sebum, provides intense hydration, and has a vast and plentiful array of natural vitamins and already holds the added benefits of our hero plant - there are literally so many uses for tallow which will be highlighted throughout our other product stories.
  • The next part, I needed something therapeutic, something calming but it also needed to aid and synchronize with the blue tansy, but it couldn't be lavender as I already use a lot of that throughout my other products. I chose German chamomile, it is gentle on the skin, is an anti-inflammatory, promotes sleep, relieves muscle tension (perfect for someone who spends the day talking!)

After I knew how it was going to go together, I got making! I loved the colour, I adored the scent and most importantly, I found, (for myself) that it has done exactly what I needed it too and I now use it almost every night! This little pot of glory is definitely getting the attention it deserves at markets too and I've found that im making a lot more than I anticipated!

Wasn't that fun! Join us next week where we take a closer look at our Kawakawa Balm and how this crazy little business really came into it's own!
